PT1 – What it Means to be People of Faith
1 Peter 1:3-9 | Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, 5 who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. 7 These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. 8 Though you have not seen Him, you love Him; and even though you do not see Him now, you believe in Him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, 9 for you are ready to receive the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls. (mind, will, emotions)
In the natural sense realm of men, “Seeing is believing.” But in the higher faith realm of God “Believing is seeing.”
This is what it means to be people of faith.
And Like any earthly Father, this pleases God… because we’re now acting like Him. The first and foremost call of God on our lives is to become more like Him!
Hebrews 11:6 | “It is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists, though they cannot see Him, and that He rewards those who sincerely seek Him by faith.”
Your faith began at the very minute you believed in God through Jesus Christ even though you have never physically seen either One of them.
And this faith doesn’t stop at simply believing in God, it moves us into walking in faith in everything we do. It means that though we live in a world that we can physically see, we have resources at our disposal beyond what can be physically seen.
The Apostle said in 2 Peter 1:3 “Gods divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of Jesus who called us by His own glory and goodness.”
The Apostle Paul called this being “heavenly minded”. He said in Colossians 3:1-2 | Therefore, since you have been raised with Christ, strive for the things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
The Bible tells us Romans 4:17, in accordance with the nature of God, that faith is, “…like God who calls those things that are not, as though they are.”
Walking in faith means acknowledging, yet looking past the reality of our natural circumstance. It requires that we see in our God-give imagination a higher reality. Seeing something that is currently not the way it should be, AS it should be according to the Word of God.
Romans 4:19-21 says that Abraham | Without weakening in his faith, Abraham faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. 20 Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God,(that they would have a child) but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, 21 being fully persuaded that God had power to do what He had promised.
If Abraham had of only looked at his and Sarah’s physical circumstance, and not looked to the unseen by faith, he never would have eventually seen Isaac born. The promise came through faith! Every promise and provision of God comes through faith and from the unseen!
If God had of looked at the Earth in Genesis 1:1 and only confessed the way it was, which was “formless and void” then it would have stayed formless and void. Instead He called into place what should have been, and then it was as He said, and “it was good!”
Hebrews 11:3 says | By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the Word of God, so that which is now seen was not made out of things which were visible.
One of the reasons that your faith is worth more than gold, is because gold, though powerful, is not powerful enough to do everything. Gold has no influence in the unseen, only faith does. God didn’t pay with gold to have the Earth built, no He spoke the unseen into the seen by faith! Before Jesus ever physically walked the Earth, He dwelled in the unseen, and God promised through His Prophets that He would come, and He did! He was born into the seen as baby boy, and grew into a man.
Here’s the key: As people of faith we don’t confess and confirm what we see with our eyes, we confess and confirm what you see by faith in the Word of God. We speak to the things that are not, AS though they should be until we see the way they should be with your natural eyes.
Hebrews 11:1 in the NASB says that – “Faith is the assurance of things expected…
We can “expect” God to fulfill His Word. It’s not presumptuous to expect Him to. He cannot lie, He will fulfill His Word, which is His will, and His promise.
And being fully convinced of this is what it means to be people of faith.
